About Me:

My name is Toby Rowland, I am from Wales in Britain, where I grew up in the countryside. This has allowed me to be a witness of animal farming on a day to day basis and helped to shape and reinforce my notions of how we relate to animals and why we should change this behaviour to one of equity and respect. I chose to became a vegetarian at the age of 6, and at the age of 9, when I heard for the first time about the process involved in the production of milk and eggs, I decided to become vegan. These were not easy transitions for a young child in a rural setting, but I managed with support, and learned how to live a vegan lifestyle. This is why I believe that you can make the change too, if you want to, and I would be happy and willing to be that support to help you along the way. With the help of someone who has gone through all the pitfalls and learning curves it can be made an easy transition that should not be thought of as daunting or scary. If this sounds like something you would like to do then please contact me and I will be happy to help in any way!

  • Vegan/Vegetarian lifestyle advice

About Me:

Hello! My name is Adam Deck, I grew up here in Peterborough but have traveled over a large portion of North America. Seven years ago, food sensitivities and health problems allowed me to connect my eating habits to how my body reacted and thrived. I eliminated all dairy products and eggs from my diet and immediately felt better. Two years later I began discussing the idea of Vegetarianism and Animal Rights with my sister who had been a long-time Vegetarian. I listened to all the connections that animals have in our daily lives and made the assertion to completely restrain from using or consuming animals - overall I wanted to live more compassionately. I have now been Vegan for over 5 years and believe in a non-aggressive approach to explaining/expressing my choices to others; 'Leading by example' does speak louder than words in my opinion. Transitioning to a Vegetarian or Vegan lifestyle is not as hard as it might seem with a strong support group to help you through it!  A Veg/Vegan lifestyle is immensely liberating; the new recipes and alternative options can be exciting yet super easy. It will undoubtedly open your eyes to the world around you with all the social and political aspects that comes with animal liberation. I would be very happy to encourage, answer any questions, or anything else I can offer. Please feel free to email me or any of our other mentors :)

Hi, I’m Katie. I’ve been a Vegan for just over 2 years and I am absolutely loving this lifestyle! My health and compassion journey started around 5 years ago when I became aware of my strong connection and love for the earth. I went to university to study environmentalism and learned in my science class the immense amount of resources that go into producing a single steak- I thought, ‘how can one be an environmentalist and still eat meat?’. These facts stuck with me and collided with an awakening I had, from a friend sharing his reasons for Vegetarianism, and watching part of the documentary ‘Our Daily Bread’. I was deeply affected by the unbiased portrayal of our food industry, and the images of animals as material items that could be tossed away without thought. However, this didn’t spark change in me at first because I found it very hard to go against everything that I have been fed since I was born. It wasn’t until I watched the rest of the same documentary that I assessed how I felt and took the pledge to go Vegetarian for one month. That month turned into a year and then I met my current partner in college who is Vegan. In a very open and non-judgemental way he answered my inquiries and shared why all uses of animals and their by-products negatively affects our well-being, the animals and the planet. I went Vegan with gentle guidance from him based on my love for all beings and my journey has since then snowballed into an awakening of health, sustainability and empathy. The deeper I travel down my path, the more a plant-based lifestyle, free of animal suffering, makes sense- the more my body, my mind and my consciousness responds. I would love to help anyone seeking to make compassionate changes in their lives, however small- it can seem daunting and confusing at first, but it is very easy once you take steps towards it. Please contact me if you would like any support, questions answered, etc.

About Me:

Hello, my name is Shannon LeBlanc. I am a 1st year Trent-Loyalist Journalism/Psychology student at Trent University. I come from an extremely small rural town called Curran, an hour East of Ottawa, Ontario (where there are more cows then people).
I started off vegetarian at the age of 10, because I worked with rescuing special needs animals and I began questioning my reason for eating meat, at the same time as I was helping animals. You could say that the saying “Why eat one, and love the other” spoke to me and forever changed my views about the way I eat. Afterwards, I chose to become a vegan at age 12 . I am currently in the process of transitioning to a gluten-free diet for health reasons and have learned more about different vegan lifestyles, such as raw, gluten-free and organic.
Coming from a “redneck, ‘meat-loving’ town”, I know what it’s like to feel like an outcast and endure constant judgement for your moral and ethical choices surrounding veganism. As a result, I have made it my goal to provide support for vegans who embrace the world of veganism and animal rights.

Don’t be shy and feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns about veganism.
